Ingredients

Fried Fish Maw, soaked to soften, then cut into small pieces

Fried Vegetarian Bean Curd Layer, cut into small pieces

Soaked Black Mushroom

Broccoli

Some smashed garlic

Salt and sugar to taste

Oyster Sauce, Dark Soy Sauce and Light Soy Sauce to taste

Cornflour for thickening sauce

Can’t find any recipe online, I adapted and modified from the recipe used for Braised Sea Cucumber.

My method:

Blanch broccoli, set aside. Keep the water for later use

Dry Fish Maw on wok, set aside

Deep fry Vegetarian Bean Curd Layers, cut small

Saute garlic and add in black mushroom

Add in Fish Maw, and water from broccoli, braised till you can smell the aroma of the Fish Maw

Add in sauce and seasoning

Add in fried bean curd and broccoli, let it simmer

Thicken sauce with some cornflour mixture

Done !

Verdict: It taste exactly like those Braised Sea Cucumber Dish that is normally served during wedding dinner or in posh Chinese Restaurant with that ceramic address plaque . If you like Fish Maw, you should try this!! (After all, Fish Maw is always so much cheaper compare to Sea Cucumber

Finally, we found the well hidden famous Penang Cendol. It is not exactly at Penang Road, but just across the road on a small lane before turning into Komtar called Lebuh Keng Kwee.

This stall is actually placed outside a small coffee shop by the name of Joo Hooi (ya, you can trace your GPS by the name of Joo Hooi Cafe too).

You either stand along that super narrow busy lane to eat your cendol or order it into the shop by paying extra 50sen to the shop owner (we did that to our 3rd bowl, its really that GOOD!)

The Asam Laksa inside this shop was quite good too. Besides, we also ordered one Fried Kuew Teow, Fried Rice and some fried Lobak from different stalls inside this shop. Edible but not very nice, I would say.

When you dine at places like this, well, don’t expect to see any custom floral arrangements on the table. Even eating can be quite hectic too, especially if you have young kids like me.

Still, this cendol is worth trying and we will definitely go back just for the cendol

On our way to North, we made a stop in Ipoh for brunch. Initially we wanted to go to Foh San for some Ipoh Dim Ssum, but unfortunately it was too packed. Patrons were even standing out at the main door, waiting. Since we had not had our breakfast, I decided not to wait but drove over to Lou Wong. But then it was only 10am, and Lou Wong wasn’t ready.

Hence we go next door to Onn Kee. Ipoh beansprout was not as fat as we expected but they were good. Even the steamed white chicken was very yummy too!

Char Siew was quite good too compare to many places, except that they are a bit hard. However my BIL can make better Char Siew, so this dish was nothing special to us.

After brunch, we continue our journey up to Penang, and continue our eating journey. Stay tune on where we went after that. After spending 5 days of eating spree, you can now imagine how much additional kilo I have gained and I hope the gatorade powder could help me burn some calories….

Cute little Dim Sum for kids

I have always wanted to try those dim sum in Hong Kong. We initially wanted to go to the famous dim sum outlet, Tim Ho Wan, but when was told that queue might take up to 2 hours, we drop the idea since we are having fussy kids with us. Hence, we tried the dim sum in Hong Kong, at Grand Century Plaza. Sister in law said their dim sum is good.

Well, cute and they look good, but it did not really suit our taste bud.

Perhaps I should find out more from my youtube downloader to check which is a better option besides this restaurant above our hotel.

Signature Mickey Waffle @ HKD 45

I remember having the same waffle when I visited Tokyo Disneyland many years back. My hosted sister insisted this waffle, saying that it is a must when we go to Disneyland.

I was very delighted when I see this again in Hong Kong Disneyland and decided to let the kids try it on. However it is sold along the Main Streeet USA and seating was rather limited. In fact, hubby was complaining about the birds dropping everywhere on the seat.

It would be good if they sell this snack as well in other restaurants inside Disneyland, or better still with some nice performance or music from the ovation guitars.

Its really taste and my kids love it! Great that we try this after all!

I am glad I saw this at one of the booth, the Foot Long Sausage with Mushroom Sauce. Priced at HK$65, it is indeed a bit on the expensive side.
