Ipoh Beansprout Chicken, Onn Kee

Thursday, December 29th, 2011

On our way to North, we made a stop in Ipoh for brunch. Initially we wanted to go to Foh San for some Ipoh Dim Ssum, but unfortunately it was too packed. Patrons were even standing out at the main door, waiting. Since we had not had our breakfast, I decided not to wait but drove over to Lou Wong. But then it was only 10am, and Lou Wong wasn’t ready.

Hence we go next door to Onn Kee. Ipoh beansprout was not as fat as we expected but they were good. Even the steamed white chicken was very yummy too!

Char Siew was quite good too compare to many places, except that they are a bit hard. However my BIL can make better Char Siew, so this dish was nothing special to us.

After brunch, we continue our journey up to Penang, and continue our eating journey. Stay tune on where we went after that. After spending 5 days of eating spree, you can now imagine how much additional kilo I have gained and I hope the gatorade powder could help me burn some calories….

Dim Sum in Hong Kong

Dim Sum for adults

Cute little Dim Sum for kids

I have always wanted to try those dim sum in Hong Kong. We initially wanted to go to the famous dim sum outlet, Tim Ho Wan, but when was told that queue might take up to 2 hours, we drop the idea since we are having fussy kids with us. Hence, we tried the dim sum in Hong Kong, at Grand Century Plaza. Sister in law said their dim sum is good.

Well, cute and they look good, but it did not really suit our taste bud.

Perhaps I should find out more from my youtube downloader to check which is a better option besides this restaurant above our hotel.

Salted Chicken Aun Kheng Lim, Ipoh

Monday, October 10th, 2011

This is my first time trying this very famous Salted Chicken.

My hairdresser has bought me one chicken, all the way from Ipoh. Such a kind friend I have eh….

I know Ipoh is very famous for their food, but we have not explore Ipoh yet as of today because hubby don’t know his way around.

All we did is to steam this frozen herbal chicken (with very strong Tong Kwai smell, and quite salty as well), with some water WITHOUT the wrapped paper.

The chicken was so tender and good!!!

Ok, that’s my update for today. Time to rush some quick step laminate for my kids photos!

Cheese Cake from Tong Kee Bakery

Extremely fattening yummy-licious Cheese Cake from Tong Kee

I am not a fan of cheese cake but I think this Cheese Cake from Tong Kee is really good. If I remember correctly, it is about the size of 6″ in diameter, baked and sold in it’s aluminium foil pan for only Rm12 or so. There are a few flavors, some with big nice juicy blue berries and some with apple chunks in it.

I got the plain one and I love it!!

Vanilla Cake from Vanilla Kajang

Address of Vanilla Kajang

When hubby said “Let’s celebrate the boys birthday” on Monday (their birthday on Lunar Calender), I jumped at the chance and drove all the way to Kajang to check out Vanilla Kajang for their signature item, Vanilla Cake.

Vanilla Bakery Shop in Kajang

This bakery shop is located somewhere opposite Mac Donald Kajang, which is also same row as Chip Lee Stationary Shop, if you are familiar with Kajang. Parking was horrible there, but luckily I managed to find a place behind the shop, next to a very BIG longkang!

Signature Vanilla Cake @ Rm63/kg

I did not pre-order this cake, hence I just grab a plain design over the counter by adding to miniature cartoon toy on it for the boys. One cake for 2 boys, and it had been only one cake for them over the years. Stingy hor, hehe….

Thin layers of vanilla custard

A True Vanilla Cake made of hand-picked vanilla beans and pure vanilla extract. Never had any True Vanilla Cake from any bakery shops. It taste really unique. Unfortunately the layers of vanilla custard were not that thick compare to the one my friend ordered for her daughter’s birthday recently. Worth driving down all the way to Kajang if you wish to taste a True Vanilla Cake :)

Cakes from Tong Kee Bakery

Sunday, June 19th, 2011

I regretted for not getting a Princess Barbie Cake for QQ again this year. We settled with just a normal fruit cake from the newly open bakery Tong Kee in our neighbourhood, but with a not-very-nice Princess Belle drawn on it.

Taste wise, I like the cake, fresh and fluffy. Unfortunately the fresh cream was too watery and it melts very quickly. Hubby complained their cakes were too sweet.

But my neighbour swear by their Pandan Layered Cake. Whatever good cake it is, I must try! So I went to get a box yesterday. It comes in a box of 3 slices at Rm4.50.

Unlike Pandan Layer cakes from other bakery which usually taste very sweet, Pandan Layer from Tong Kee taste a bit salty. The cake texture is extremely soft and together with the salty Pandan layer, it taste just so right and nice!

A little box of this Pandan Layered Cake from Tong Kee is just great a door gift if you are visiting anyone’s home :)

Pau Petai by Sim Hiap Chang

Thursday, June 9th, 2011

Pau Petai from Sim Hiap Chang’s Pau Kampung, Kota (near to Tampin, Melaka)

My father said this is the one and only petai pau that is available in Malaysia. It is so unique and it even came out once in the news paper. True enough, these handmade pau petai taste really special and its sambal taste really good. But unlike machine made pau, handmade pau has a harder layer skin and whenever we eat, we have to peel it off.

These yummy pau arrived just in time for our tea time when father brought it up to my place few evenings back.

If you travel to Melaka by the trunk road, you will surely pass by this small town by the name of Kota. Do remember to try this pau (you can ask around for “Sim Hiap Chang Pau” for the location of this shop) if you happen to pass by this place one day.

Sek Lok Food Seafood, Sg.Long

Sunday, March 6th, 2011

Although this restaurant does not have great bathroom faucets, it serve the best dishes in this area.

Tong Por Yuk (Braised belly pork)

Located in a very well hidden area in Sg.Long (next to the fishing pond), this restaurant serve the best Tong Por Yuk I have ever came across. Very crispy outside and extremely soft inside, even the pau that goes along taste really fantastic!

There are also many good dishes here, like their Signature Sambal Petai fish, and Deep Fried Pork Knuckle with the best black pepper sauce I ever tasted. If you come into this area one day, you must really drop by here.

Best Crispy Chinese Fried Cruller

Friday, October 22nd, 2010

I regretted I ate so much today. My dad came over this evening and bought lots of Yau Char Kuai (Chinese Fried Cruller). My dad said, the Chinese Cruller from my area is the best. It was so crispy that I can’t stop munching on one, after one, dipping it into my black coffee. Consequences? Not only I have to worry about gaining a lot extra today, I might also need the best acne treatment for my oily skin :(

Susan’s Bistro, Mahkota Cheras

Wednesday, August 18th, 2010

Of all places I have eaten, Susan serves the best chicken chop. It is grilled just to the tender perfection, and yet still very soft and juicy inside. No other restaurant can grill the chicken so well. Although this restaurant is situated so near to our place, hubby dislike this place because parking along the shops is extremely difficult. I doubt if there is anything here can attract hubby to this place again, not even if the waitress here wears sexy costumes.
