Remember the Braised Fish Maw Dish I posted earlier?

In case you do not know how it looks like before it’s cook, below is a picture of the Dried and Fried Fish Maw I bought from the wet market.

I love home prepared Fish Maw as they are fresher, and I find they taste so much better than those that are fried in bulk. Perhaps the oil used are cleaner and fish maw are better of quality too.

Hubby love it most when my late MIL boiled the Fish Maw in soup. Those days, MIL would buy and dry them before frying them herself. Not knowing how the process works, I prefer to buy ready fried Fish Maw.

Fish Maw Soup Ingredients

Thin slices of ginger

P0rk slices (best to use those with some fats)

Fish Maw (soaked and cut into small pieces)

Salt to taste

Sounds pretty easy right? I bet an chef would be able to make this soup (if you do some background checks on their cooking experience), and I could too, but of course nothing beats my late MIL’s soup that she boiled on her charcoal stove.

I do miss my late MIL’s cooking….. A LOT…

The public holiday was also in the conjunction of the one week school holiday so not only the Chinese families would travel, everyone wish to spend time back at their kampung too during this long holiday, with their loved ones.

Salmon Sashimi from Sushi Zanmai Midvalley @ Rm25/5 pcs

Not able to exit the toll, we turned back to town, and went for lunch at Sushi Zanmai Mid Valley, and some light shopping before continue our journey.

Although we continued our journey later on in the evening, we were still stuck in the jam, for hours. But luckily the kids took a nap in car during that crawl. How nice if we could own a 5th wheel insurance here so we can put up a stay just at any highway rest area without have to rush to arrive at our destination each time a crawl happens, especially during long public holidays.

On our way to North, we made a stop in Ipoh for brunch. Initially we wanted to go to Foh San for some Ipoh Dim Ssum, but unfortunately it was too packed. Patrons were even standing out at the main door, waiting. Since we had not had our breakfast, I decided not to wait but drove over to Lou Wong. But then it was only 10am, and Lou Wong wasn’t ready.

Hence we go next door to Onn Kee. Ipoh beansprout was not as fat as we expected but they were good. Even the steamed white chicken was very yummy too!

Char Siew was quite good too compare to many places, except that they are a bit hard. However my BIL can make better Char Siew, so this dish was nothing special to us.

After brunch, we continue our journey up to Penang, and continue our eating journey. Stay tune on where we went after that. After spending 5 days of eating spree, you can now imagine how much additional kilo I have gained and I hope the gatorade powder could help me burn some calories….

Cute little Dim Sum for kids

I have always wanted to try those dim sum in Hong Kong. We initially wanted to go to the famous dim sum outlet, Tim Ho Wan, but when was told that queue might take up to 2 hours, we drop the idea since we are having fussy kids with us. Hence, we tried the dim sum in Hong Kong, at Grand Century Plaza. Sister in law said their dim sum is good.

Well, cute and they look good, but it did not really suit our taste bud.

Perhaps I should find out more from my youtube downloader to check which is a better option besides this restaurant above our hotel.
