Ipoh Beansprout Chicken, Onn Kee

On our way to North, we made a stop in Ipoh for brunch. Initially we wanted to go to Foh San for some Ipoh Dim Ssum, but unfortunately it was too packed. Patrons were even standing out at the main door, waiting. Since we had not had our breakfast, I decided not to wait but drove over to Lou Wong. But then it was only 10am, and Lou Wong wasn’t ready.

Hence we go next door to Onn Kee. Ipoh beansprout was not as fat as we expected but they were good. Even the steamed white chicken was very yummy too!

Char Siew was quite good too compare to many places, except that they are a bit hard. However my BIL can make better Char Siew, so this dish was nothing special to us.

After brunch, we continue our journey up to Penang, and continue our eating journey. Stay tune on where we went after that. After spending 5 days of eating spree, you can now imagine how much additional kilo I have gained and I hope the gatorade powder could help me burn some calories….

Yam (Taro) Rice

Since mum is around, I asked her for some idea to cook at times when I run out of idea.

Being a fan of Melaka Ba Kut Teh (where we usually eat our Bakuteh with Yam Rice), we just simply love yam rice. Hence last week I bought some ingredients as below:

Stir Fry Yam Cubes

Ingredients

  • Half Yam, cubbed – I like big ones because they are more powdery
  • Pounded dry prawn
  • Shallot and Garlic
  • Slice of belly pork (or mince lean meat for an healthier option)
  • Salt and Pepper to taste
  • Dark soy sauce (optional)
  • Fried crispy shallot and onion for garnishing

Because we had a huge yam, we did extra so we keep a portion for our pork dishes later.

Yam rice

Method

  1. Saute shallots and garlic, then dried shrimp
  2. Add in cubed yam, meat
  3. Add salt and seasoning
  4. Add in washed rice grains
  5. Put everything into your rice cooker and start cooking

Pau Petai by Sim Hiap Chang

Pau Petai from Sim Hiap Chang’s Pau Kampung, Kota (near to Tampin, Melaka)

My father said this is the one and only petai pau that is available in Malaysia. It is so unique and it even came out once in the news paper. True enough, these handmade pau petai taste really special and its sambal taste really good. But unlike machine made pau, handmade pau has a harder layer skin and whenever we eat, we have to peel it off.

These yummy pau arrived just in time for our tea time when father brought it up to my place few evenings back.

If you travel to Melaka by the trunk road, you will surely pass by this small town by the name of Kota. Do remember to try this pau (you can ask around for “Sim Hiap Chang Pau” for the location of this shop) if you happen to pass by this place one day.

Not only I like to eat, I love to cook too. But since Kakak can cook fairly well now, I just give instruction and leave all our cooking to her. I rather spend my time experimenting and making new food. I just found my new love in juicing especially after reading the tips on how to lose stomach fat fast. Now I make fruits and vegetable juice twice a day.

Besides I also make my own yogurt at home now. I hope my yogurt will be sour enough for me tomorrow as I am going to learn making my own mushroom soup!

I love my daily juice. In fact, I am looking forward to it everyday, as each time I get different taste from my juicing. I usually mix more than 5 types of fruits and vegetables together.

Juicing just get easier each time for me as I only have to grab what is available in my fridge. My latest addiction is the passion fruit because I love those chewing on those blended tiny seeds. So far, I tried:

Fruits: Apples / Oranges / Grapes / Strawberry / Banana / Passion fruit /Papaya and soon Kiwi / Jackfruit

Vegetables: Bitter gord / Cucumber / Celery / Beet root / Tomato / Carrot

If you have idea on what else I can add, do let me know, ok!

Easy homemade yogurt

After not seeing any more weight drop on myself, I temporary stop Leptin for a while. Instead of eating breakfast like normal, I switch to fruit juice making. Thanks to tips from so many friends online, I make nicer and yummier juice now. Will post about how I make my yummy breakfast with pictures here later.

Apart from juices, I make my own yogurt too using the home simple steps recommended by friends.

My yogurt ingredients :

  • 1 Cup HL milk / any type of milk
  • 2 Tbsp yogurt from the supermarket shelf
  • a little bit of Dalfour Jam (to flavour the yogurt)

Method:

  1. Mix milk and yogurt in a cup. Optional: Can also use milk powder to get thicker yogurt
  2. Boil some water in a big pot. Off fire.
  3. Put in a dry bowl inside
  4. Place the cup of  yogurt mixture inside dry bowl
  5. Leave it for hours (I got my yogurt within 3 hours :)

I hope I will be able to continue eating healthily this way every morning and I am sure, I shall be able to shed some weight off in no time. You should consider this breakfast method too, if you have spent so much effort to slim down with the best diet pills.

I am getting in love with my vege+ fruit juice now. So far, I have experimenting with the below depending what is available in the fridge:

  • Orange
  • Apple
  • Celery
  • Grapes
  • Banana
  • Papaya
  • Cherry Tomato
  • Carrot
  • 1 tablespoon oats (to thicken the juice)
  • 1/3 Cup yogurt drink (to flavour the juice)
  • 1/2 Cup Fresh milk / HL Milk

They taste great!! Now I am looking forward to my tasty breakfast everyday :)

Best Bakuteh Spice

Among all Bakuteh spice I had tried, Cheong Kim Chuan is the best. Cost only Rm7 per box (with 2 packs of spice and fresh dry herbs in it), tt is definitely cheaper and taste very much better than the famous A1 that we usually buy in the market. This brand actually comes from Penang (I saw this in one of the tourist spot in Penang) but surprisingly I got this even cheaper in KL.

I plan to cook bakuteh again this week. Tempting right? However this shall not be taken so frequently otherwise you will need to click here for tips to help you maintain slim at all time.

Big Breakfast

A platter of boiled sausages, crab meat, steam dim sum and 2 fried eggs garnished with fresh lettuce.

Instead of having my usual 2 pieces of bread plus a cup of milo, sometimes in the morning I just like to make myself a big platter like the above. A heavy breakfast not only makes me feel more energetic, it also keeps my stomach fuller thus the need to have a heavy lunch. If I were to dine something like this in a cafe or restaurant, surely it would cost me a lot. Since there is no one to dine with me, might as well keep it simple by making this myself at home. Just hope I would not eat something so heavy so frequently and also not too much of oil intake to keep my face acne free and spend less on Acnetix.
