Vanilla Cake from Vanilla Kajang

Wednesday, June 29th, 2011

Address of Vanilla Kajang

When hubby said “Let’s celebrate the boys birthday” on Monday (their birthday on Lunar Calender), I jumped at the chance and drove all the way to Kajang to check out Vanilla Kajang for their signature item, Vanilla Cake.

Vanilla Bakery Shop in Kajang

This bakery shop is located somewhere opposite Mac Donald Kajang, which is also same row as Chip Lee Stationary Shop, if you are familiar with Kajang. Parking was horrible there, but luckily I managed to find a place behind the shop, next to a very BIG longkang!

Signature Vanilla Cake @ Rm63/kg

I did not pre-order this cake, hence I just grab a plain design over the counter by adding to miniature cartoon toy on it for the boys. One cake for 2 boys, and it had been only one cake for them over the years. Stingy hor, hehe….

Thin layers of vanilla custard

A True Vanilla Cake made of hand-picked vanilla beans and pure vanilla extract. Never had any True Vanilla Cake from any bakery shops. It taste really unique. Unfortunately the layers of vanilla custard were not that thick compare to the one my friend ordered for her daughter’s birthday recently. Worth driving down all the way to Kajang if you wish to taste a True Vanilla Cake :)

Simple dishes for parties

Sunday, June 19th, 2011

I love cooking for parties and I just need to arrange them nicely and lay on our prettily wrapped up table where we do table tennis.

Although we can easily order just some foods from the caterers, I find that it is more challenging when I get to plan and cook all the dishes ourselves (of course, also with a maid to help out preparing the ingredients, and most importantly, washing up!)

Instant Curry Chicken using the A1 Curry Chicken Paste

With the easily available A1 Curry Paste @ RM3.50, who needs to pound ingredients for curry anymore? I just need to buy the paste, 1 coconut and 1.5 whole chicken to come up with this. It taste just as good as those my Grandma used to cook (mixture of spices in the curry powder from the Indian shop in the olden day).

Fried Mee Hoon

Next we cooked a pack of fried meehoon to go with the curry chicken. Not a very difficult task as we used to cook this sometimes. My maid can cook very well and I just had to leave this to her.

Crispy Nuggets and Cheesy Jumbo Sausages

Another great hit among adults and children, especially, are these Fried Nuggets, and Cheesy Sausages. For nuggets, I always go for the most pricey Ayamas Nuget Crispy (red and purple color packing). They are the best and you will never go wrong with it. To keep them crispy, we fried them last, 30mins just before the arrival of our guests. Cheesy Sausages (we like the Jusco Brand Jumbo Cheese Sausages) is over easy too, as we usually only boiled them.

Another simple dish will be Fresh Salad with a bottle of Thousand Island sauce. All we have to do was just washing up the lettuce, cherry tomatoes, cut and grate the carrots.

Besides all the above, we also cook Nasi Lemak, Fried Ikan Bilis and made a very nice bowl of Sambal with fresh tomatoes. I had Kakak pounded and cooked the sambal a day up front so we don’t have to cook and clean like crazy on the day of the party.

I am indeed looking forward what to prepare for my boys coming up birthday celebration. It is going to be a much simpler one as most of our guests will be little kids in school. Since it falls on a Wednesday, I’ll perhaps hold 2 small parties. One a day ahead at their playgroup on Tuesday and another on the actual day on Wednesday at their Mandarin class :)

Tea party for Princesses

Tuesday, June 1st, 2010

I am having fun doing the preparation for QQ’s birtday. It will be a very small birthday tea party for her and 5 girls from the neighbourhood. Food will be minimal, as I only need to feed 5 girls and ourselves (its all about food and food again so I must also plan for my quick weight loss afterward). Its the craft part that I am looking forward to, and these are what I have prepared and planned for the day:

1. Princess Crown making
2. Coloring contest
3. Beading
4. Bento decor (depending on their mood then if they still want this)

I shall share the pics and website where I got all the materials once I received them later). Check it out on my parenting blog ya.. (demoments.net)

5 June cakes

Tuesday, June 1st, 2010

Since there are so many celebrations at this month (Lunar birthdays, English calendar birthday for the kids and hubby), I thought of getting a jelly cake instead as they are really pretty and tasty too. But QQ and hubby just dislike the idea of having jelly replacing cake. They said, jelly cake ain’t cake at all. So we will end up with at least 5 cakes, for this month for this month. I will obviously be needing adipex to help me flatten tummy by the end of the month again !

Not baking this year

Tuesday, June 1st, 2010

It is the month of June again. Instead of baking, we will be getting cakes from the shop for everyone instead. More nicer and tastier, I think. However I am still going to personalised by printing some edible images for the kids’ cake so it look more special. QQ will have a Diamond Castle theme birthday this year, while the boys will be having Thomas and friends. Can’t wait to see the outcome of the cake soon.

Still shy at 5

Sunday, August 2nd, 2009

First she said, “specky is UGLY”. Then she refuse to join the kids for games at her best friend’s birthday party in Mac Donald.

QQ was lucky to get 2 birthday party invitations at Mc D at such young age last month.

Last weekend it was the second time QQ was invited to attend a birthday party at Mac D. Just like the first time, she refuse to sit in with her friends, but instead “kepit” under my wings with sitting with the parents. When games started, Iris came over to pull her hand to play, but she just refuse (although I tried to bring her out to hold her friend’s hands). The moment, I let go, she will run back to me like a small little children.

I am really sad to see my girl behave this way. Although she is now already 2nd year in pre-school, can see that her confident level is way too low compare to kids her age. Now I am tempted to enroll her into after school classes so that she can mix with more people without me around.

Bake Chicken Wings

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

Marinated wings are arranged on a tray of cut potato, carror, and onion chunks.

1st Birthday Platter for the neighbours

It has been exactly one year since we did birth announcements for our boys. In just a blink of eye, they are already crawling everywhere in the house, waiting for me to celebrate their first birthday.

Since we already did a mass celebration at hometown with family members with cakes and party, we only have a simple dinner at home on their actual birth date.

I marinated some wings (with mixture of oyster sauce, thick and soy sauce) and baked them in my oven. I even baked some small banana cupcakes (should have did some lil egg tarts instead) and did some red eggs, just for the sake of having fun. Since we had extra, I prepared a platter too, as giveaway to the neighbours. Just something so simple and nice :)

Baby banana muffins

Thursday, July 2nd, 2009

After a while taking a break in baking for the kids birthday, I baked again a few days back, just for the sake of fun. This time I made mini banana cupcakes, with my girl around sitting on the alleviated seat using the seat lifts so she could be tall enough to help me line the cups on our kitchen workplace.

Notice that my cakes do not fluff up? I probably adjusted the temperature in my oven too hot. Thus they ended up quite dry but crispy. Cute yeah, just great to stuff a few into my girl’s lunchbox the next day :)
